How to get here

TARTU is situated in Southern Estonia and connects to the world through Tartu Airport and Lennart Meri Airport in Tallinn. The distance between Tallinn, Estonia's capital, and Tartu is 186 kilometres, or about 2.5 hours by express coach or car.
Riga is 245 kilometres from Tartu. You can get from Riga to Tartu by plane or by express coach. Lux Express buses run to Tartu from Riga International Airport. The journey takes about 3.5 hours by bus or car.
Helsinki is 260 kilometres from Tartu. Tartu is directly accessible by plane from Helsinki. Helsinki-Tartu flights are operated by Finnair seven days a week. Flight time is 50 minutes.
St. Petersburg is 330 kilometres from Tartu, or 6.5 hours by express coach or car.

THE TOY MUSEUM is located in Tartu Old Town, very close to St. John’s Church (Jaani kirik). The Museum’s permanent exhibition and the Play Room are located at Lutsu Street 8 and the Museum’s Theatre House is located at Lutsu Street 2. The Museum is open from 11:00 to 18:00 from Wednesday to Sunday.
Lutsu Street is located in paid parking zone A. The first 15 minutes of parking are free of charge and the hourly rate is 2 EUR. Parking is free of charge on Saturdays and Sundays.


BY CAR

Coming from the direction of Tallinn, drive straight into Tartu without turning anywhere. Drive down the Jakobi hill and turn left at the corner of Jakobi Street and Lutsu Street. You can park on the street in front of the Museum.

Coming from other directions (Võru, Valga, Viljandi, Räpina or Jõhvi Road), you can navigate from the junction of Riga Road and Vabaduse Boulevard where Tartu Kaubamaja and the Kvartal and Tasku shopping centres stand. After turning onto Vabaduse Boulevard from the junction, drive straight until Munga Street, turn left and drive straight until Jakobi Street. At the Jakobi Street crossroad, turn right, and then right again onto Lutsu Street.

BY TARTU PUBLIC TRANSPORT

If you come by city bus, Lai is the nearest stop to the Museum, with bus No 6 stopping there. After getting off the bus at the Lai Street stop, turn left at the corner of Jaani Street, walk to the corner of Jaani Street and Lutsu Street, and turn right. It only takes a few minutes to walk from the bus stop to the Museum.

FROM THE BUS STATION TO THE MUSEUM

The walk from the bus station to the Museum takes 15 minutes at most. The fastest route is to walk along the side of River Emajõgi and turn left onto Gildi Street. Turn right at the corner of Gildi Street and Jaani Street, and then turn left at the corner of Jaani Street and Lutsu Street.

FROM THE TRAIN STATION TO THE MUSEUM

The fastest route to get from the train station to the Museum is to walk over or around the Toomemäe hill. If you come by bike, we recommend cycling via Vaksali street and Näituse street. 

At a moderate pace, it takes 15 to 20 minutes to reach the Museum on foot and 5 to 10 minutes by bike.

BY TOURIST BUS

One parking space is designated for tourist buses next to the Museum on Lutsu Street. Please observe the traffic signs.

WHAT TO DO WITH A BIKE OR A PRAM?

Prams and pushchairs as well as smaller bikes can be lifted into the Museum’s vestibule. It is not possible to move around the Museum with pushchairs and prams. We ask you to kindly park larger bikes either in the courtyard of Lutsu 2 (please ask the service staff) or at the bike holder at the corner of Lutsu Street and Jakobi Street.

 

WHEELCHAIR ACCESS

Wheelchair access is available to both Museum itself (Lutsu 8) and the Theatre House theatre hall (Lutsu 2). However, it is not possible to enter the Theatre House basement by wheelchair. In order to move around the Lutsu 8 exhibition house, it is necessary for someone to accompany the person in the wheelchair, as the building has different levels, which can be difficult to enter alone.
If possible, we ask to be notified beforehand about visiting our museum in a wheelchair by calling the ticket office 7461 777 (Wednesday-Sunday during 11-18).
